Dr. Skylar Barnes is a recent graduate of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine with a passion for companion animal practice and low stress veterinary visits. Dr. Barnes grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and received a degree in Biological Sciences from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Her interest in veterinary medicine began through years of involvement in 4-H, where she raised a wide variety of animals, from chickens to pygmy goats, and developed a deep appreciation for the human animal bond. She has experience in general practice and shelter medicine, including fostering more than 100 animals and serving as Adoptions Coordinator for the UC Davis Orphan Kitten Project. Through caring for fearful pets in the shelter setting, as well as through personal experience with her own anxious dog, she developed a strong interest in animal behavior and low stress handling techniques. She is Fear-Free certified and focuses on supporting positive experiences for both patients and their families in the veterinary setting.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Barnes enjoys traveling, and spending time outdoors hiking, camping, and going to the beach. She lives with her boyfriend, Alex, and their German Shepherd mix dog, Wheels. She looks forward to joining the team at OC Veterinary Medical Center!
